Their fusion of rave and indie is one of the things that makes them unique, with a new album always eagerly awaited. Fans need not wait much longer
The year of Nile Rodgers
2013 was the year of collaborations, exchanges, meetings and one-offs, breathing some much-needed fresh air into the music scene. More and more artists albums are full of guests who often come from very different areas, making unexpected offerings that give birth to new sounds. And in doing so these collaborations also remind us of past greats and their tremendous contributions, like guitarist Nile Rodgers, who, with the Chic, wrote some of the most beautiful pages of funk ever – just consider a masterpiece like ‘Good Times’ – and went on to top the charts again so many years later with Daft Punk’s ‘Random Access Memories’.
Now Rodgers, who has announced that in 2014 he will be in the recording studio with Giorgio Moroder (another musician who Daft Punk wanted on their album), has just released a record together with Disclosure, one of the most famous electronic bands of the new English scene. On ‘Together’ he joins other stars of funk Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes.
