The secret garden party


If the garden occupies a special place in the English psyche, the secret garden perhaps describes the English soul. Yet as Depeche Mode sang on their debut: “My secret garden’s not so secret anymore…” At least not when 26,000 people are milling about, the estimated attendance at this festival in the Cambridgeshire countryside which has nonetheless managed to retain its convivial intimacy and party atmosphere, showcasing the best music in lush surroundings.
