The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys, Alt-J, Jessie Ware… Who else will perform at this year's edition of the festival?
It’s coming up to Sonar, the festival of ‘Advanced Music’ held in Barcelona June 13 to 16 at the MACBA, Barcelona’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and at night in the big open arena. Excitement is increasingly building around Kratwerk’s live show. The boys from Dusseldorf are the perennial innovators who have dominated the electronic music scene these past decades and anticipated the wave of experimentation and minimal funk ‘”from another planet” by the likes of Daft Punk that has met with such success and critical acclaim. Their show on June 14 will be much more than just a concert, more like a contemporary art installation, a tribute to robotics and its influence on cinema and music.
Based on a dialogue between men and machines it can only be truly appreciated wearing 3D glasses, so the audience too can part-enter that world of half-human half-cyborg, hovering between influences from Philip K Dick and 2001 ‘A Space Odyssey’. Â After the major retrospective at the MOMA in New York, during which the group, over eight nights, celebrated their long career, Kraftwerk are perfect to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Sonar. But not only them, of course.
On the 15th The Pet Shop Boys perform their new album Electric (which we have already premiered on Tiamaria.com) on the same day as Californian hip hop star Jurassic 5. And then there’s Two Door Cinema Club, the 10th anniversary party the Ed Banger label, the new English revelation AlunaGeorge, the “French Touch” of Laurent Garnier, phenomenon of the year Baauer and DJs and musicians from all over the world to be experienced at a festival that takes place from morning to night. And then why not begin your holidays with a trip to the beach?!
