Sónar: Day 1

Ladies and gentleman, Sónar 2012 has officially begun! In fact, its first day set the bar high with more than 90.000 tickets sold and a lot of artists on stage. Moreover, everyone had high expectations and every little detail was taken care of. That’s why the crowded area of Sónar by Day had a full fun day without any obstacles or minor accidents.

The Sónar by Day area is located in the middle of Barcelona (CCCB, MACBA and Capella dels Àngels) and it consists of five stages which are set out in different parts of the big complex. The most important stages are SonarDôme and SonarVillage. The later inspiring us to dream about a forest situated far away from the city where all the biggest artists play. The other, SonarDôme looks like a circus due to the big marquee which covers all the showground.  The SonarHall looks like an underground night club located under the CCCB museum and finally, the SonarComplex is situated out of the building and it is accommodated in the Capella dels Àngels.

The first concert started at 12 a.m. with Microfeel and Chico Unicornio, both deejays from Spain. The general public began to congregate three hours after the opening of the doors and the life of the festival was quite and calm. Beer after beer, the festive spirit of Sónar started to show as the party increased in power. Big names Mostly Robot, Thundercat, Eltron John and When Saints Go Machine, raised the atmosphere up to the sky. The afternoon continued with Blastto, Daedalus Archimedes Show, Sizarr, Yosi Horikawa, d.Forma and so on. But the most important performance was clearly Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs from the United Kingdom. The SonarVillage was packed and the artist greeted the crowd with one of his most popular theme songs, Garden, followed by Trouble and Tapes and Money. Dancing was an obligation.

After that, the festival continued in the Sónar by Night area which is located in a big exhibition hall Fira de Barcelona next to CCCB and MACBA. These concerts were by invite only so the area wasn’t as full as Sónar by Day. The main attraction was the SonarClub’s eagerly awaited performance by New Order who definitely cranked the festival up. Art, people, technology, drinks and especially artists came together at Sónar 2012 and filled Barcelona up with more than just electronic music.
