Their fusion of rave and indie is one of the things that makes them unique, with a new album always eagerly awaited. Fans need not wait much longer
A new album by Neneh Cherry, adopted daughter of legendary jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, is always worth waiting for, so the news that the British doyen of “nu funk” has another one on the way is always cause for celebration.
Due to be released in February, the Four Tet produced ‘Blank Project’ looks like it will be worth waiting for if the album’s eponymous single is anything to go by.
Cherry once again takes funk to a different dimension, one inhabited by hip hop, jazz and soul. It’s this kind of endless invention that makes Cherry great, along with her openness to collaboration, this time around with star of the international dance floor DJ Ricardo Villalobos. Together they composed ‘Everything’, remixed by DJ with his distinctive minimalist vision, the jazz singer’s voice melding with the hypnotic pace that characterises his work.
Cherry will present the album in a series of club dates in Europe. On February 26 at Concrete in London, March 2 at Bitterzoet in Amsterdam, March 6 at Berghain in Berlin.
