Their fusion of rave and indie is one of the things that makes them unique, with a new album always eagerly awaited. Fans need not wait much longer
Dubstep meets dancehall. An endless mix of sounds from London, New York and Jamaica. A fascinating, futuristic live show. Lighting that seduces, bass diving deep. Welcome to Major Lazer, created by Diplo and Switch, two of the most sought after producers of the moment, urban sound “designers”, able to pull together the seemingly impossible. And finally it arrives, their new album after working with so many others including Snoop Dogg. They’re no strangers to collaboration themselves and the new album is packed by guests including Santigold with Vybz Cartel in ‘You’re No Good’, Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend in ‘Jessica’, and pop superstar Bruno Mars in ‘Bubble Butt’. Free the Universe’ is due out this month, continuing their journey in to dancehall that has been an inspiration since their debut, produced at Jamaica’s legendary Tuff Gong Studios, writ large in the history of reggae.
‘Free The Universe’ will receive a global showcase beginning on April 27 at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, May 1 at the Plug in Sheffield, and May 4 at the Roundhouse in London.
