Jose James

Hailed as one of the most exciting names of the international new soul scene by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Jose James new album ‘No Beginning No End’ is set to become one of the events of the new year.  It’s due to be released by Blue Note, the most prestigious jazz label in the world, which means you can be sure it does what it says on the tin – in this case expect a sophisticated blend of modern jazz and hip hop. As well as featuring one of Blue Note’s prime movers and shakers pianist, composer and producer Robert Glasper, the album also brings together singer Emily King, who played the Tia Maria Room in London in December, and virtuoso bassist Pino Paladino. The result is elemental, assured, forward-looking. Tracks include ‘Trouble’ and ‘Come to my door’, which he performed live last year with Emily King, along with Vanguard produced by underground DJ Spinna which underlines the modernity and urban feel of the album as a whole. This follows Spinna’s tribute to James on his mixtape ‘The Eccentric Movements of Jose Jame’s and includes some unmissable remixes like ‘Desire’ by Moodyman and ‘Warriors’ by SBRKT.
