If there’s one open air contemporary festival that has that famous Californian flower power vibe it’s got to be Coachella
Disco sounds at Lovebox 2012
There was a deliciously vintage feel to this year’s Lovebox Festival in London’s Victoria Park. As well as showcasing new material penned by Italian DJ Benny Benassi, Harlem R&B artiste Kelis also name-checked Madonna and Cindy Lauper before going on to perform a tribute to Donna Summer with ‘I Feel Love’. Like most of the performers at Lovebox 2012 it felt as if the spirit of disco was snapping at her heels, not least from the decks of Groove Armada faves Horse Meat Disco, featuring DJ Severino. Saturday’s stand-out act Emeli Sandè’s cover of Coldplay’s ‘Every Teardrop is a Waterfall’ was simply stunning, yet disco made a comback the following day with Nile Rodger’s Chic and their hits ‘Le Freak’ and ‘Good Times’. 2012 was the year disco came to Lovebox, and proved it never really went away.
