Their fusion of rave and indie is one of the things that makes them unique, with a new album always eagerly awaited. Fans need not wait much longer
‘Black Radio’ by Robert Glasper was one of the more sophisticated and rich releases published last year – a masterpiece of urban music in which Glasper synthesised funk, soul and hip hop, creating compositions that formed a kind of soundtrack of black contemporary music. There’s now a sequel, ‘Black Radio 2’, similarly ambitious, and for which Glasper invited collaborations from an impressive list of artists. Jill Scott sings on ‘Calls’ while the magical Norah Jones adds a mystical feel to ‘Let It Ride’, a song in which jazz jives with drum’n'bass. Urban music star Emeli Sandé is also present on ‘Somebody Else’, classic R&B.
‘Black Radio 2′ is no second best – it’s another helping of a favorite dish, and you can’t help coming back for more.
