Their fusion of rave and indie is one of the things that makes them unique, with a new album always eagerly awaited. Fans need not wait much longer
The fashions and music may change but the excitement and innovation remain the same – the fabulous Bestival on England’s Isle of Wight from 5th to 8th September unveils new spaces and new groups but the spirit remains the same as the legendary 1970 hippy fest which featured some of the greatest names in rock. The Festival which takes place at Robin Hill Country Park is characterised by its sense of fun and freedom with about 30 stages and an impressive number of artists and areas. The latest arena to be announced is Temple Island, a large theme park of contemporary art where, says creator of Bestival, Rob Da Bank, ‘reality and fantasy merge… and nothing is as it seems’.
Temple Island features a huge installation with the public being encouraged to dance inside it, thereby creating a living work of art in continuous transformation and a secret club, The Doghouse. The Island will be Bestival’s go-to place… before it is burned down!
And as for the line up… hold on to your hats! It includes: Elton John and His Band, Snoop Dogg, Fatboy Slim’s Bestival Birthday Bash, M.I.A, Franz Ferdinand, The Flaming Lips, The Knife, Wu-Tang Clan, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Roots, Belle & Sebastian, Jessie Ware, Disclosure, DJ Fresh/LIVE, Tom Odell, Hot Natured, Rudimental, Sinead O’ Connor, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Squarepusher, The Walkmen, Angel Haze, The Polyphonic Spree, James Blake, Johnny Marr, Courtney Pine, Dexys, John Cooper Clarke and many, many more!
