2 Chainz is riding high on the new wave of American rap heading this way. Emerging from the crucible of the open mike, 2 Chainz is renown for his quick wit laced with a sense of humour not always easy to find in hip hop. He forged his musical career the hard way – going back to ‘97 and hip hop duo The Playaz he formed with high school buddy Earl Conyers (known as Dolla Boy). The Playaz went from strength to strength, evolving into Playaz Circle with Ludicris and joning his Disturbing the Peace label, part of Def Jam, that has brought urban music to a whole new audience. 2 Chainz enjoyed many collaborations with the likes of Lil ‘Wayne and Busta Rhymes, until breaking out on his own in 2010 and after working with Kayne West and putting out a series of mix tapes, released his first solo album this year Based on a T.R.U. story which shifted 147,000 units in its first week.
2 Chainz hits Europe this week, starting in London on 14 November at the Electric Brixton thanks to support by Lovebox, organisers of some of London’s greatest and most innovative festivals. The rapper will also visit Amsterdam (Paradiso), on the 16, in Paris on the 19 at Cabaret Sauvage, before returning to America for a long series of concerts.
